LIFE IS THRILLING WITHOUT EXCESS ADRENALINE AND OTHER IN-HOUSE ADDICTIONS... From the Sayings of 'T'

TRENDS and SIGNS

Details of Divine Intervention:  #168[97] Seascape II

Around 1950 Nature was beginning to show signs to a wider audience that it was reeling from the effects of over-population, habitat destruction and pollution- a veritable decimation of species in the plant and animal kingdoms.

Until then, religion assumed a base in nature...   Nature was semi-divine in that it was always as it was.

The quality of one's being, one's inner being especially, was paramount as one survived in nature.  We might claim 50,000 years of this attitude.

Now, such religion is a gloss, a nostalgia in a material society made palatable with nice ethics, sometimes decent ritual,  perhaps pastoral care or just another pain killer.  One no longer must appease a super-deity-
Now
a common delusion is that Nature can be controlled or will be someday by technology and that will solve the problem.

One's concern is for advancing the human project- at least surviving in it.

I
n this New Age of Technocracy, one's drive is to fit in somehow
- economically and purposefully to make a contribution and a profit
.

[All the greed, various other vices and insecurity are perennial, whatever one's sociology. ]

So, we explore options to help survive spiritually, but as well to survive in a natural way.

We are not against 'the human project'  -Not Doomsday prophets we.  But suspect that we've taken a wrong turn as a species.

Some of the so-called 'primative' societies might have chosen not to advance to 'civilization' (and the techniques of war and conquest) for spiritual reasons.  They are butchered to this day, spiritually dedicated or not,  as soon as they are discovered by so-called advanced cultures- especially if these fabled 'primatives' have anything valuable- especially if the advancing hoard is on some kind of righteous mission.

So,  facing this reality, how does one survive spiritually?   That's what America is about.  Other places as well.

There's  been great progress in some areas.  Really impressive-  Medicine, for example.  And there are ingenious methods, attitudes and relationships from the past that still address the human mind/body.

But the rest is still threatening.  Eyes open or not.
That's the situation.

I thank God daily while confining me to a darkened room for much of the past 20 years, that same scenario has allowed me, slowly, to finish the Nepsis project* that addresses the issues above.

I thank God moment by moment and the 'great American experiment' that allows me to do what I do, or not-  And certain quirks in the economy that have allowed me to survive when the other agencies mentioned above were otherwise occupied.

LIFE IS THRILLING WITHOUT EXCESS ADRENALINE AND OTHER IN-HOUSE ADDICTIONS...**

By 'in-house' I mean readily accessed habits like extreme
exercise that produces addiction to endorphins or other habits of avoidance -You can name your favorite.

Avoidance, like superficiality and materialism is subtly and not so subtly epidemic now.  So,

  • How does one learn to recognize Holiness, Spirit, spirits or even a demon if that's what interests you darker souls-

  • Not by joining the 'just right' congregation, party or cause!

  • How does one 'hunt for peace'?

  • How can one 'see the face of God and live?'

Shaman's Robe, Staff and Hat

About to be folded away.

Why?

Some of these sacred and ritual objects are meant for certain purposes only- rituals, castings, prayer- wonderful but discreet actions...

Some are meant to create an environment of prayer, the energies, meditation- interaction with an animate universe and an animating Spirit- these would be the some of the paintings as well as trunks/boxes of gathered 'objects,' shrines and altars- Clear space with certain art works-  A Sanctuary.

Some are meant for general public exposure; some of the art works.

And

Peace

(This might best be read as a one act play, with one actor, some charming old codger... a character actor.)

#1. Homosexuality is (can be) one of those 'wrenches in the machine,' 'toys on the floor of a darkened room' that trip people up, make them think, change, grow!

It's like ART- the great "LIE that tells the TRUTH." If it is Art, not just design or decoration or more craft such as drawing, cooking, or cars and collecting...

#2. SEX AND CELIBACY: A norm in college was frequent sexual encounters of various expressions were only healthy.  Not having sex also produces interesting results- Sometimes craziness (over emphasized by critics, I think) but celibacy is also beautiful, sometimes there are moments as magnificent as any in the world of human experience- as well as a great challenge. It should be noted that 'celibacy' as used here is simply the unmarried state.  Everyone has sex biologically, and actively in their minds at least- some which might be healthy and some might not so.

#3. THE CAVE...  of Solitude and the Inner Life- Hesychast thinking, (Nepsis) processes that observe the filter of human physiology, mind, and spirit in shaping perception and experience- The fullness of Prayer.

#4.  SCRIPTURE, Old Testament- Psalm 104 is one example of the 'borrowing' in the Old Testament from surrounding civilizations by 'a people' forming identity and struggling for survival in a very competitive field. In this case, it was from Armana texts.  See the famous 'heretic' pharaoh Akhenaten 14th Century B.C.

Sexual mores in the Old Testament are often the same competition, borrowing or reaction to...  Christianity certainly borrows much from the Old Testament not found in the Gospels in this regard.

*
One Sunday morning, twilight before sunrise, the full, full moon rolls down northern ridge of our mountain to the West,
to finally stop, disappear between the ridges
of
an adjacent range.

*
#5. Gabriel Stone- Tells the tale of Messianic figures current in the generation before Jesus.  One in particular named Simon fought the Romans, was persecuted, reviled, killed in a shameful way, his body left to rot in a sandstone gorge-  Was predicted to resurrect after 3 days. See full blog presentation- http://whitelightcircles.blogspot.com.

#6. The sense of the WHOLE of EVOLUTION, the HUMAN PROJECT as one (perhaps subconscious) effort that RELIGION (God in Religion) addresses...

#7.

These days one has to join a group or better a cause-
  Then, you have to 'network.'

  And you better!

That's good for a middlin' sort
But taken to its extreme, you get the church-

-if you're virtuous, or when the church is the world, ambitious.

So how have I done any better?
  Not at all- really...

...first you have to be a Berdashe (which are protected by fearsome       spirits!).   But not necessarily the 'fem' or 'butch' types. Too easy.  To my   preference anyway...

Then, you must know the/a 'Genius Loci.'  and contemplate the mysteries     of Nature- at great length.  See "Han Shan" and "The Daoist Rainmaker" or my own "Montana Ritual."*

...voluptuous fragrances of the past

Best an androgynous non-declaration of orientation.

...and service to others...

  ...

Aging is 'charming' with its poignant indignaties

  BUT,

There are real charms about it

  Layers of visionary appreciation- awareness

States that might occasionally transcend physics

and the Black Dragon, coiling and wreathing...
in the sky- just behind those clouds

  just out of sight.

just a glimspe maybe with its irresistible stench...

  ...

  and so on

DE DEUM

(TE DEUM On the occasion of a Tridentine Mass at the Abbey)

They call me “God.”  What a word?  Some call me Ganesh, Shiva, Kokyanwuti, and “Father!”

Well, I did make that perfect girl with child-
So, father
I Am!

And such a Son

I Am.

But these words- God, Purity, Father/Son- what do they mean to Me?

Better SILENCE from you about Me and My Doings.

Pure Spirit

I Am.
Better you focus on being yourself kind, patient, merciful, humble, honest, brave, loving, wise and just- And BELIEVE that I want that-that that’s what I require.
Quiditas

(‘Honest’ especially, since lies are the language of the Prince of Lies and his cruel humor at your nearly infinite capacity to delude- yourself! The appearance of holiness, the sounds of holiness are not holiness, for example-  Only you and I...)

I blew the stars from clouds of gas
fragile as blown glass

I am the ‘Maker of Worlds’- even your precious, lovely, lonely earth with all its biology- (Keep it well, for I will remember your Doings...)

I caused the Branes of Being to touch- Magnificent Moment of Eternity- I Am.

So, you “go walking by the River, the beautiful, beautiful River...”

I’ll be there too
Frogs and turtles
Trees and streams
I’m there,
with you!

I’ll ‘lift you on angel’s wings’
Son or daughter
Daughter, son

‘I’ll fly away, fly away Old Glory’

You say,
I say
Stay,

Stay with Me.
Here and Now
I’m all there is.

I’ll show you

I AM the ‘Furthest Shore!’

Stay with Me and mine

With Me there’s always

MORE!

Philosopher's Stone

The image above is a copy of a Michelangelo  drawing.  I believe its turpentine washes on board, about one foot by ten inches and I painted it as an exercise around 1970.  At the time I was fascinated with the English and Italian Renaissance and the periods before and after.  As an art and literature student in collage, it was easy for me to focus on those areas with time and some depth.   I've forgotten most of that by now, but it helped form my inner life with its inner life and provided solid foundation for later developments.  One advantage out of this approach to knowledge is a resistance to fashions in politics, art or religion.  If we are left-wing one decade and right-wing a couple of stones down the road, we might be missing the point of a stable world-view.  It is good to appreciate the positive values of Middle Ages and Renaissance.  But it is also well to appreciate the positive insights of the serious Reformers, the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution- as well as the cultural commentary from the 1960's, (It wasn't all free sex, flowers, drugs and war...).

Well, I'm preaching to the choir!  I hope you enjoy this poem and its two images.  All the best,
